Dear Parents/Guardians

“The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things.”

Jean Piaget

The Swiss Psychologist, Jean Piaget, whose words were uttered more than 60 years ago, are as true and relevant today as they were when first said. Content knowledge is easily accessible… at the click of a button; the skill of being able to discover, the desire to be curious… and then create from “nothing”… these (and other) 21st century skills are what our children need more than ever. I do believe that at Clifton we strive to do this.

This past week and weekend has reminded me again about how much our children are offered in the way of activities: be they in the classroom, on the sports-fields or a cultural setting. The
opportunities are limitless. What a privilege.

The past weekend saw our Senior Primary Choir and Grade 7 Marimbas perform at the Michaelhouse Music Concert … both as a stand-alone choir and then a little later alongside other choirs in conjunction with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a significant treat.

On the sporting front, our children continue to inspire me with their never-say-die and plucky attitude. I congratulate all of our children selected for their respective KZN Midlands sporting teams – the large number of children selected is indicative of the healthy place sport is in at Clifton Notties. I am proud of the Hatch sisters, as reflected in the article overleaf.

I have included a link to an article by Michaelyn Hein, entitled “How to raise selfless children in a “me First” World. I thought it worth sharing the article with you. The link is: https://selfsufficientkids.com/selfless-children/

We acknowledge our School’s Founding Day tomorrow, 17 May. The following link on Facebook reflects
the

history and significance of this day. The link is:

This time next week, we will be going on Mid-Term break … where has the year gone?

Enjoy your weekend!

Kind regards.
