Clifton Clubs
The benefit of joining a club includes spending time with others who have similar interests, in addition to experiencing new things and further developing passions.
Through extra-curricular activities such as clubs, our children are also afforded the opportunity to improve their academic performance, thinking skills, creative skills and to develop relationships with peers in different grades and with the caring teachers who facilitate the clubs.
The Clifton Club experience includes:
Art Club
In Art Club, we work on collaborative projects as well as individual pieces in small groups and at the individual’s pace. Passionate artists are able to continue to create outside of the classroom and within their own subject matter.
Chess Club
Playing chess helps unleash your originality, since it activates the right side of the brain, the side responsible for creativity. It also increases problem-solving skills; a chess match requires fast thinking and problem-solving on the fly because your opponent is constantly changing the parameters.
Clifton chess is voluntary. Members of the club challenge each other for a spot on the top 10 ladder. We host or go to matches vs other schools.
Drama Club
Drama Club is a space for children to get extra exposure to drama and an additional opportunity to hone their skills. We always start off the year by playing a range of improvisation games to get to know each other and to let the creativity flow. It is our belief that the best way to improve on stage is to be on stage as often as possible.
The Grade 4 and 5 children spend time choosing their own poems and monologues for performance, while the Grade 6 and 7 children workshop their own play.
Hiking Club
The Hiking Club complements the Clifton Out and About Programme. Various guided hikes are offered each term to Grades 4 – 7. These hikes to the Berg include over-nighting in caves and occasionally in tents. Routes are chosen according to the age group and abilities of the children.
Robotics Club
Robotics is a branch of engineering that involves the conception, design, manufacture and operation of robots.
The Clifton Robotics Club is aimed to encourage creativity, collaboration and problem solving. Members compete in the Nintendo Switch Splatoon competition.
