The Baltic conditions over the past few days reminded me of Mr George Winnicott, a true Clifton legend, and a great fan of the safari suit. Mr Winnicott retired from Clifton in 1998, having spent 36 of the 50 years of his teaching career at Clifton. It was a tradition at Clifton for the boys in those days to forego the comfort of their long trousers until Mr Winnicott had succumbed to the icy conditions and donned ‘longs’ himself It was reliably reported that this happened only twice in his career at Clifton….
